The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management has started a collaboration with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) QualityRights initiative to promote mental health and wellbeing within the public relations industry, a sector facing increasing pressures.
This initiative is part of the Global Alliance's commitment for 2025. In observance of Health & Wellbeing Month, the organization organized a free global webinar on January 30, which marked the release of the “Global Alliance How We Are Working Mental Health and Wellbeing Snapshot Report”. The report highlights key challenges related to mental health in the industry, such as the high stress levels among professionals (78%) and the lack of mental health support within companies (64%). Furthermore, over 50% of professionals declare unrealistic deadlines and poor work-life balance as stress factors. However, only 32% feel comfortable discussing mental health at work.
Additionally, the rise of AI is altering workflows, improving efficiency but also presenting new challenges in terms of ethical communication management and transparency. In response, the Global Alliance is committed to establishing a global benchmark for monitoring and improving mental health within the sector. In 2025, the organization aims to provide accessible training and resources for professionals. Through its collaboration with WHO QualityRights, online training on mental health rights will be available in 11 languages, alongside workplace wellbeing policies and a framework to make mental health a priority in the industry.
Global Alliance President, Professor Justin Green emphasized the urgency of addressing mental health in the PR sector, and Health & Wellbeing Month Chair Jennifer Muir invited people to take action in order to improve professional wellbeing. This is a call from Global Alliance to all professionals to join forces for making mental health a central priority.
