International media world conferences on cross-medial future in Mechelen (Belgium)

International conference cross-media storytelling. 23 novembre 2007 - Lamot conference centre Mechelen; 24 novembre 2007 - Campus De Ham University College Mechelen.

Cross-media Storytelling 2007 will be a conference with international charisma. Media-authorities of prominent organisations like BBC, France24, KRO, VPRO, NOS, VRT, De Volkskrant, Corelio and the Laboratory for Advanced Media Production (Sydney) and the Institute for Prospective Studies of the European Commission confirmed their collaboration. At the conference researchers from universities of Siena, Rome, Bournemouth, Brussels and Amsterdam present the results of their research projects. ExMachina, Vodtec, Insites, Caipirinia en Microsoft analyse spectacular cross-medial projects. These Days, IBBT (Interdisciplinary Institute for BroadBand Technology), Telenet and the city hall of Mechelen are partners of the conference.
Crossmedia is ‘hot'. De sector is full of it. But, what is cross-media? Generally a technical answer follows this question. Storytelling however is a fundamental aspect of Cross-media.
"The very old rules for storytelling are still very present. Today though the cross media creator has to tackle critical temporal and locative elements and think way beyond passive consumption and become an ‘experience' designer."
This is a position Gary Hayes (Australia) for instance will take at the conference.
The new ‘Media expertise centrum' (Mec) of the University College Mechelen organises the international conference on ‘Cross-media Storytelling', together with the Faculty of Communication en Journalism of the University College Utrecht. Media-authorities from Journalism and Communication companies, give their vision on the latest developments and the future of the cross-medial landscape.
