Political Film on Internet ArchiveArchive.org, for those who don't know it, is a massive Internet library. Thousands of old government and corporate propaganda films are stored in the Prelinger archives. Duck and Cover', Reefer Madness' and all the old favourites are there. Many of the clips you will probably have seen used in The Corporation', the Michael Moore films and others are to be found in their full context here. Its not just old material. There are many new documentaries made by amateurs, activist groups, flash films, comedies, books (as PDF files) and much more besides. It's all downloadable usually in a few different formats, is completely free and relatively easy to use. It's also extremely addictive, particularly if, like me, you are interested in looking at extremist political content on the web (you've got to have a hobby!). The majority of content on the site is not of this sort but it's worth looking through some of it.One lunatic film I watched was "Illuminati Mystery Babylon". This is a chat with Texe Marrs (yes he does put an e' on the end of Tex), a Christian author who states that he is not anti-Semitic, but he does believe that the coming anti-Christ will be Jewish. He has a ludicrous theory of Jewish domination of the USA, Russia and the world etc. You can always tell what the real agenda of these people are by whom they attack and whom they defend. With this particular man FDR is out (so no New Deal') and Nixon was only destroyed because high level, behind the scenes Jewish billionaires decided it had to be so. Also, apparently Bill Clinton was secretly Jewish and Karl Marx was a High Priest of the Church of Satan. Enough said I think.Alex Jones' films are also interesting - try Police State 1,2 & 3' or American Dictators'. These films are a classic example of putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 (well, probably 6 he is further off the mark than 5). They have some disturbing footage of US military practice' operations such as shutting down entire neighbourhoods for a day. What they are practicing for is an interesting question but Jones' theories do not manage to convince.Noam Chomsky has described a form of anti-politics.' Essentially, what he means by it is that corporations are unaccountable private tyrannies' and in their terms government has a flaw, which corporations do not have, which is that it is potentially democratic. Therefore corporate interests encourage anger to be directed at the government or things that are not real (e.g. all encompassing Jewish conspiracies, Communist conspiracies, massive terrorist networks and so on). This keeps public resentment and anger from focusing on anything except where power really lies the corporations. The films to be found on this site with..errm how can I put it&idiosyncratic views about the nature of power in the world today appear to be a (minor) vindication of this theory. At its best this type of site shows the ability of the web to allow more freedom of expression than any other medium before and the creativity and skill of amateur filmmakers. A resource like this also helps to give these alternative news sources a wider audience. Sadly, it also shows that when some people get the chance to speak, they talk nonsense. Some to viewWe Interrupt This EmpireThis is a one-hour documentary about the protests in San Francisco at the beginning of the Iraq War made by the Video Activist Network (http://www.videoactivism.org/)There are a couple of shorts by Danny Schechter (see Weapons of Mass Deception in this section).Industry's soldiers is a slightly bizarre computer animation that's worth a look. Desert Venture parts 1 and 2 are old corporate films detailing the marvellous' cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States and are an ironic filmmakers wet dream. All of these can be found easily by typing the name into the search facility.A.
